Kyle is major character is The Sacrifice but also appears as minor role in The Dead and appears once in The Fear and The Fallen. Unlike most kids, Kyle finds the sickness a good thing. Kyle has a large battle axe for a weapon and is described as a big kid with a crude sense of humour.
Kyle is what most of the characters call crazy as he enjoys the sickness that has spread over the world and enjoys killing the adults. He is shown to be very sadistic when killing the sickos.
In The Sacrifice, we learn that Kyle suffered from depression before the sickness and that he wasn't very good at school. He hated people like Ed (popular and good looking) and wanted to kill them before the sickness hit.
He admits that before he always wanted to do something "great" like taking a samurai sword or a machine gun and killing everyone in his school then committing suicide so he would go down in history.
He visited a therapist before the sickness, and said that he was uncomfortable in himself, and didn't know who he was. He also mentioned that he had lots of suicidal thoughts, but has since become a lot happier because the disease struck. In the Sacrifice, Ed notes that Kyle is smarter than he seems. Kyle was reluctant to help when Wormwood told them that a kid was being chased by sickos (Shadowman) but he eventually assists Ed and reassures Shadowman when he's rescued. Although Kyle seems to not care about other kids, he does say that he doesn't want any more of Ed's group to get hurt after Adele's death, and does seem to value every kid's life, even if he is hesitant to help and often complains. He is also extremely loyal and cares about those he completely trusts, as with Ed, although probably not anyone else.
He appears beside Ed at the battle of Lambeth Bridge when children and sicko's were hurrying away from the fire.
When the remaining kids retreated towards the boat Ed saw that he was alive.
When they hijacked the boat he went to help Aleisha by finding a first aid kit.
He yet again survives the boat wreckage and from then lived in the Tower as Ed's bodyguard.
Kyle is often described as being big, with big ears, and a bony head, or sometimes a square head.
Kyle is often said to never leave Ed's side. He acts as a sort of bodyguard for him, and often refers to Ed as 'boss'. Ed is the only person Kyle can really accept orders from, even if Kyle doesn't always agree with them. Despite them being very different, Kyle calls Ed his brother, and they are certainly very close. Ed says that Kyle makes him laugh, and knows him better than anyone else. In The Hunted, Lewis observes that when fighting, Ed and Kyle work as one, protecting each other and they time their moves perfectly together without conferring. In The Sacrifice, Kyle is able to tell that Ed is 'giving in to his darkness' and he thinks Ed might be depressed, which Ed thinks to probably be true. Kyle respects Ed because he's clever, a good fighter but most of all because he accepted him when he didn't have to. Although Kyle seems to have a lack of empathy, he tells Ed that he wishes Ed could be happy, and Kyle does care for him.
