"You are a stone-cold killer, dude, and I respect that. We're brothers now, whether you like it or not"

-- Kyle, to Ed Carter, mentioning how they are similar despite their different upbringings.[1]

Kyle is a major character in the Enemy series, first appearing in The Enemy. He acts as Ed Carter's best friend and closest ally.

Appearance

Kyle is often described as being big, with big ears, and a bony head, or sometimes a square head.

Personality

Kyle is what most of the characters call crazy as he enjoys the sickness that has spread over the world and enjoys killing the adults. He is shown to be very sadistic when killing the sickos. Unlike most kids, Kyle finds the disaster to be a good thing.

Ed notes that Kyle is smarter than he seems. Kyle was reluctant to help when Wormwood told them that Shadowman was being chased by sickos, but he eventually assists Ed and reassures Shadowman when he's rescued. Although Kyle seems to not care about other kids, he does say that he doesn't want any more of Ed's group to get hurt after Adele's death, and does seem to value every kid's life, even if he is hesitant to help and often complains[2]. He is also extremely loyal and cares about those he completely trusts, as with Ed, although probably not anyone else.

History

Kyle does not divulge much of his personal life from before the disaster. However, he shares part of his life with Ed, mainly describing how he was not well liked in school because he never wore what was considered "cool". He struggled with grades in school, feeling dumber than the other kids, and found the only subject in which he was good, art, was not supportive for him. He saw a therapist and was diagnosed with dyslexia, and shared with the doctor his desires to either kill a whole bunch of his classmates and/or himself[1].
